The Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) is a program consisting of approximately 3-4 individual sessions and is available to sanctioned or self-referred students. BASICS is designed to provide students with a judgment-free environment in which they can examine their drinking behaviors. BASICS incorporates motivational interviewing techniques that foster productive communication and collaborative relationships.

To schedule a BASICS appointment:

  • Please schedule your appointment online with this form. (Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM)
  • Please bring a laptop to your appointment if you have access to one.

BASICS is available for TCNJ Students only.

Be sure to include SEVERAL dates and available times for a meeting, contact information, the nature of the incident, and the referral source.  Appointments can be scheduled 8:30-3 PM Monday-Friday; phone callsand emails will be answered promptly during these times. Please bring a laptop to your appointment if you have access to one.

If you are seeking help for situations of an emergency nature that occur during office hours, please contact Counseling services and be sure to inform the receptionist – (609) 771-2247 x2247 – regarding the nature of your urgency.They will do everything possible to respond promptly and/or involve other resources as needed. For emergencies after hours, contact the Helene Fuld Crisis Center at (609) 396-HELP, Campus Police at 911, and/or Residence Life staff.
